Rolling Hills Community Church (RHCC) has been building community in Lago Vista for over 40 years. Rolling Hills Christian Montessori School (RHCMS) was created to be a premier education provider for the North Shore area, creating lifelong learners and scholars by embracing and supporting the natural curiosity of the child in a nurturing and calm environment where they are guided towards exploration and learning.
The Montessori philosophy was created by Maria Montessori in 1897, when she observed that confined children were in need of more stimulation from their environment. Montessori education involves free activity within a “prepared environment”, meaning an educational environment tailored to basic human characteristics, to the specific characteristics of children at different ages, and to the individual personalities of each child. The function of the environment is to help and allow the child to develop independence in all areas through the mastery of cumulative small tasks. In addition to offering access to the Montessori materials appropriate to the age of the children, the environment should exhibit the following characteristics:
- An arrangement that facilitates movement and activity
- Beauty and harmony
- Cleanliness of environment
- Construction in proportion to the child and their needs
- Limitation of materials, so that only material that supports the child’s development is included
- Order
- Nature in the classroom and outside of the classroom

We believe children do their best when they have lots of daily opportunities to be in nature, go on hikes, and work in the garden. Rolling Hills Christian Montessori is set in nature on a 10 acre property with nature trails, gardens, and natural play areas.

Maria Montessori spoke often of how nature inspires children to learn from their environment. In her observation of children, she noted the fascination that children show with the natural world. This inspired her belief that educators bring children out into nature, rather than confining them within classroom walls, in order to encourage and reinforce their natural instincts towards curiosity, exploration, and a love of learning.
